Case Overview

Scenario 2: You are caring for Carl Shapiro, a 62-year-old man with a recent history of acute coronary syndrome, which resulted in an interventional coronary angiogram procedure, with the placement of two stents to repair the blockages to his coronary arteries. Carl deteriorated during his procedure and required a two-day recovery in the ICU. He is now back on the ward, but he appears upset at times, his family tell you they thought he was going to die.

The hospital is implementing a new program to facilitate patient and family involvement in identifying and responding to clinical deterioration, particularly when concerns are not escalated by clinical staff. Your role involves introducing Carl and his family to the new system through shared decision-making.


Question 10 – Evidence-Based Practice and Shared Decision-Making
