Health systems are concerned with people’s health, and that is why it aims to protect and improve their health. The health system has programs designed to promote healthy lifestyles and fitness. In addition, health systems have policies with set principles and goals that govern how care is provided and accessed by people. The health system programs and policies experience progress and challenges. In that case, this paper will discuss the progress and challenges that health system programs and policies related to maternal and child health face at the global and national levels. Different programs are started for health that aims to improve the mother’s health and the child’s health. At the global level, the health system has programs that focus on the health issues related to children and women at the global level; the program offers access to immunizations. The programs focus on the mother’s nutrition child at the national level. However, the health system programs are faced with challenges like insufficient budgetary distribution at global levels. At the national level, the health programs are faced by poor leadership administration in the health systems (Hogan et. al, 2010).The health system policies related to maternal and child health have policies implemented on maternal and child nutrition and are used globally. The maternal policies ensure quality healthcare and good health for the mother and the child nationwide. At the global level, the health system policies related to maternal and child health face challenges like insufficiently trained health personnel lack of education among individuals. Currently, governments worldwide continue to make this type of care a priority and in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. Two significant programs covering (MCH) include the MCH Block Grant within the US and the WHOUNICEFLancet Commission which has global coverage.The MCH Block Grant is a federal-state partnership whose purpose is to offer maternal healthcare assistance to mothers, pregnant women, and children from low-income populations. Interventions range from Medicaid to health insurance programs. This program is implemented through competitive grants offering after comprehensive needs assessments are done by the Health Resources and Services Administration . The MCH Block Grant program provides critical resources for the improvement of services such as family planning. Given that the program is competitive, US states implement the evidence-based measures that can be used to apply for the grant besides helping the states provide the associated services better.The WHOUNICEFLancet Commission is a joint program by the World Health Organization and Lancet which aims at improving the lives of children aged between 0 and 18 years, especially in low-income populations globally . The program mainly focuses on various issues, including children’s health and rights, intending to raise the quality of life. The above programs are meant to improve the lives of both mothers and children regarding health and health rights. When pregnant women and mothers within their child-bearing age are adequately taken care of, they are likely to give birth to healthy babies which is crucial for raising child survival rates.
