Description

Part 1: Final Design Solutions, Floor Plans and RCP

Assignment Overview

From the development of Week 5 submissions, review feedback in class and proceed with the following:

Assignment Step-by-Step Instructions:

[1] As the scaled version has been produced, we will now learn how to create a Room Index. See example below. Identify all the rooms and areas in each floor and number them. Numbers appear continuously regardless of floor levels. Integrate this Room Index to the corresponding floor level.

Room IndexLEVEL 1 Room NumberRoom Name1Lobby / Reception Area2Media RoomLEVEL 2 12Executive Office

[2] Review all recommendations for required changes of your schematic plans and  provide a more developed floor plan with furniture layouts of the entire space / levels. Identify wall types with tags or notes. Use the plan with more developed wall partition legend if this has not been done yet. Use one sheet per floor level.

[3] Remember to revisit previous planning decisions and follow essential guidelines you might have missed namely, ADA, UD, Wayfinding, Life Safety, Human Factors, Sustainability, sun path study of the building, etc.. Some examples:

  • Maneuvering clearances
  • Unobstructed reaches
  • Freestanding and protruding objects
  • Accessible routes and ramps
  • Accessible toilet rooms
  • Mapping elements (path, node, edge, district, landmark)
  • Cognitive maps – lighting, color and materials can impact the formation of edges, district or nodes and three-dimensionality of space
  • Signages (informational, regulatory, safety, etc.)
  • Wayfinding clues (can be achieved with change in color, texture, floor; ceiling treatment and lighting to minimize or highlight areas; and furniture arrangement or type.
  • Effective acoustics (absorb, block, cover or reduce noise).
  • Construction of interior walls based on occupancy load and classification.
  • Egress components (exit access, exit, exit discharge, public way, accessible exit route, path of egress travel on plan with furniture, exit widths, door encroachment, sprinkler heads, etc.
  • Sustainability strategies (energy efficiency, building materials, daylighting, water conservation, indoor air quality, etc.)

[4] Finalize the RCP with switching layout, ceiling heights and lighting legend. Use the same Room Index and update if changes were made. Select your fixtures and prepare the lighting schedule. This will go to the FF&E sheets later.

[5] Remember to give primary attention to the ceiling design of all the rooms or areas. The lighting specifications will focus on areas you will be rendering for the final presentation. Teams will work on 10 renderings and individual students will produce 6 renderings or image styling options. A final floor plan with furniture layout and RCP will serve as A6 Part 1 submission. Use an ideal scale that fits the paper. Rendering can be manual rendering with use of colored pencils sharpie, Sketch up, or digital. This will be reviewed on Week 10.

Information Only for Week 6: Expected rooms or areas for rendering (10 total):

  1. Main Lobby**
  2. Gallery
  3. Executive Offices**
  4. Regular Offices
  5. Shared enclosed offices
  6. Open Collaborative space**
  7. Conference room**
  8. Creative Room
  9. Break room
  10. ADA Restroom**

** for individual students

[6] Continue to use the appropriate scale and plan from floor to ceiling walls, doors, partitions, etc. Start formatting paper space at 11 x 17 inches. Add the labels, north sign and scale under each plan. One level per sheet. Add the room index in each sheet.

[7] Review any recommended changes from week 5 of the RCP. Review notes on acoustic and lighting solutions for the office space and update them (closed office space, open office space, or the collaborative enclosure); indicate sprinkler heads and exit signs; create a ceiling legend and a lighting schedule.

[6] Continue to use the appropriate scale and plan all sections – from floor to ceiling walls, doors, partitions, etc.

Recommended number of pages will 4-6 (depending on the use of the hypothetical level 2); excluding cover page and bibliography in MLA style.

Submission Details:

  • Updated final floor plan with Room Index.
  • Updated RCP or Reflected Ceiling Plan (all levels) with Room Index.
  • Lighting schedule (with images and full specifications)
  • Use Designer Pages.com for 85% of materials and specifications.
  • Combine all of the parts of the assignment, save your presentation as a single PDF file, and name it as INTA242_W6A1_LastName_Firstnameinitial.pdf. Submit this file in the Designated Folder by the due date.
  • Assignment 6 Part 2: FF&E Selections and SpecificationsAssignment OverviewIn this assignment, based on your developing design concept and criteria matrix, you will continue to research commercial office furnishings and finishing materials using Designer Pages. com and make appropriate selections for the spaces designated. You are in the process of finalizing of what you have already started from previous weeks. In addition, you will create a Power, data and communication plan showing task lighting as well as the electrical, phone, and data outlets by graphically showing each symbol in the plan. This is a schematic sheet that you can draft for faculty review. Submit your working drafts for all one or two levels. Check Powerpoint 10a for details.Assignment Step-by-Step Instructions
    1. Research and specify all furniture, lighting, and fixtures/equipment. Use one schedule for each category.
    2. Continue the search with materials for flooring, wall, ceiling, doors and window treatments. Note: The sequence of the pages should be floor finishes, wall finishes, ceiling finishes, fixtures and equipment (ex: toilet fixtures, water fountain, Covid 19 sanitizing dispenser, etc.)
    3. Create FF&E specifications with all the necessary manufacturer source, website link under designer pages, details, dimensions, and code or credential related information. See examples of the acceptable format.
    4. Start preparing your images that will show coherent decisions on your finishes for all spaces. Optional: Check materials from the Library so you can also develop a tray of samples for the final presentation.
    5. Research of Codes Application for the Commercial Project (ex. hallways, stairs, ADA, sprinklers, 2 hour rated walls and doors, swing of doors, egress, fire safety, etc.). These decisions affect your commercial grade products associated to fire-resistant materials and assemblies. Mark these codes application in your floor plan.
    6. Submission Details:
    • Updated Floor Plan with Room Index
    • Floor Plan with Furniture Tags (Only rooms to be rendered will be prioritized for the tags).
    • Work sheets of all your FF&E Schedules.
    • Use only Designer Pages.com for all sourcing activities. If Sustainability is one of your focused goals – use Building Green for sustainable products (https://www-buildinggreen-com.aii.idm.oclc.org/product-guidance)
