BCJ 2501 UNIT IV I HAVE TO COMMENT ON MY CLASSMATES DISCUSSION BOARD QUESTION AND THIS IS WHAT THEY WROTE :

One way gender has significantly organized elements of social life is around the family structure and the role of the father/husband. He is typically portrayed as the provider and hence a successful male is one who provides for his wife/offspring. A failure as a male is one who does not provide. This contributes to the likelihood of crime in two ways. A.) a male unable to use legal means to provide would see illegal means as a viable alternative. B.) A male may work too much to provide the type of life necessary to legally succeed and pay his fair share and hence be absent from the home and not providing an authority figure to keep unruly offspring inline.

Another way gender significantly organizes elements of social life is gender equality in the workplace. Treating women as equals would mean they would have to jump into situations many millenia after established roles and boundaries have been set socially. It is upheaval on a significant level. Women ask to be treated equally to men but require special laws to protect them from being treated equally. This upheaval and change in law has contributed to the likelihood of crime in the workplace such as harassment, sexual harassment, FMLA violations and more. It has even led to contradictory laws. As a peace officer in Texas I am unable to have my peace breached by a citizen on the street, however, a coworker who would say the same things to me may be fired, sued and all sorts of other issues. While not an arrestable offense it does appear to be a double standard.
