INFLAMMATORY CARDIOVASCULAR CONDITIONS

?The nurse in the pediatric emergency department is assessing a 3 year old male brought in with reports of fever 103.7 x 6 days. Mo states that the symptoms started like a typical viral illness with the fever, fatigue, and decreased PO intake. She became concerned when the fever persisted beyond 5 days. She states that she is worried that he may be dehydrated because his lips appear very dry, red, and cracked.

On assessment the nurse notes the following:

Tachycardia
Temp 104.1
Mild tachypnea, breath sounds clear bilaterally
Lips appear dry, red, with fissures
Conjunctiva bilaterally injected, with no evidence of exudate
Anterior cervical nodes are enlarged and nontender bilaterally
