Climate change poses a serious threat to healthcare systems worldwide. Extreme weather, changing disease patterns (WHO, 2023), and environmental degradation are all a part of this change we’re seeing. As frontline healthcare providers, nurses will be directly impacted by these challenges. They may face increased demand for care due to climate-related health emergencies and need to adapt to new environmental health risks. Another issue we may see become important is mental health, as it is becoming a pressing political issue, thanks to COVID-19. Nurses may experience mental health challenges as well due to the stresses of their profession, exacerbated by the pandemic.
