Description

Collaboration and Improvement

Whether talking about literacy or any other aspect of a school’s instructional program, improvement should always be continuous, ongoing, and collaborative.

In this module’s assignment, you will demonstrate your knowledge of the importance of collaboration by designing a slide presentation for colleagues in which you present:

(1) the literacy need that you have identified (Module 1)

(2) the research that you have summarized related to the need (Module 2)

(3) the lesson or action plan that you have created related to the need (Module 3)

(4) a five-item survey that invites colleagues to provide input on your presentation.

Follow the steps below to create a 6- to 8-slide presentation (not including the title and references slides) for your response.

    • Use APA format for the references slide and in-text citations.

Step 1. Use PowerPoint or another slide presentation tool (supported/approved by this class as indicated in the Week 1 announcement) to develop the presentation. Tutorials are available: Digital Learning Connections Resources and Tips.

In addition to the information on the scoring rubric, points will be deducted for font that is unable to be read due to size and/or style, information that falls of the slide, “broken” formatting on the slides and icons/pictures that are not clear/easy to be read.

Step 2. Create a title slide for your presentation that includes:

  • Presentation title
  • Your name
  • Course number and title
  • Date

Step 3. Create a presentation as if you are teaching colleagues how to implement the lesson or action plan. Develop (a minimum of) one slide for each of the areas listed below. The content should be 6-8 slides.

  • Identify the literacy need. Include your survey data and school data that supports the identified need (Module 1)
  • Provide the gist of the research and strategy you summarized for each of the five research articles. Tell how they support the identified need (Module 2)
  • Provide an overview of the the lesson or action plan you created to support the identified need. Include all components of the plan. (Module 3)
  • Create a five-item survey inviting colleagues to provide input on your presentation to strengthen literacy in your school. Survey questions should be open-ended and not allow room for “yes/no” responses.
    • Example: Which activity do you feel is most applicable to the promotion of school-wide literacy?
    • Survey tools must be embedded with the plan. Questions can be provided on the actual slide, as a link or QR code on the slide.
    • Survey links /QR codes must be accessible by the reader. Anything that is inaccessible/unable to be read will be scored as a “0”.
  • Include a reference slide in APA format. It should include all resources used in Module 3 and additional resources used for Module 4.
