https://www.england.nhs.uk/digitaltechnology/info-revolution/ and then they should read the article within the section entitled ?Interoperability? https://www.england.nhs.uk/digitaltechnology/info-revolution/interoperability/
Reading these sections will explain what is happening in terms of the key deliverables (the Operating Management Deliver aspect) related to digital transformation which are:
Offering digital services for patients and care professionals
Information sharing and transparency
System leadership: The National Information Board.
considered the context and explored complexity of the NHS England health care service. The transformation to digital operations is occurring at a time when they face the challenges of growing demand (and demands); the increased volume and complexity of the overall system; and an ageing population. The case of the NHS is a particularly challenging one ? in February 2016 ?4 billion was provided to the NHS in England to enable them to go ?paperless? by 2018 see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35514382 The strategy was originally developed in 2013 by a previous government as part of their strategy for NHS efficiency. It should be noted that NHS England Personalised Health and Care 2020 states that ?all patient and care records will be digital interoperable and real-time by 2020? see https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/384650/NIB_Report.pdf
The two above links are essential reading of the case which will be added in the reference list.
the other instructions are:
500 word written document for this section in which you will critically consider the operational practices of your allocated case (NHS) and make recommendations for future operational practices.
In section 3 you must present your work in three subsections which are as follows:
3.1 Introduction ~ Briefly introduce the context of the case and then outline the most obvious operational challenges from the perspective of the digital economy ?digital readiness?; capacity and supply chain management. Cite case reference.
3.2 Operations in practice ~ Next you will outline the examples of operational practices of ?digital readiness?; capacity and supply chain management as they are evident within the case context. This needs to be undertaken specifically in relation to how operational functions are developing and changing in the digital economy; linking to the points that you have made in section 3.1. Here you will also show that you understand the current operational capacity levels within the allocated case and the significance of the role of capacity and supply chain management. References are required.
3.3 Developing digital operations capability ~ Finally you will provide recommendations in relation to how the case organisation can meet the future operational challenges that you have identified in section 3.1. You should use academic sources to support the points that you are making about how to conduct operations management in this context. You should finish with clear points drawn from the argument and bring the work to a constructive end. References are required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR SECTION 3 WRITTEN CASE REVIEW ? This section requires you to carefully consider how theories of operations management are put into practice particularly from the digital operations perspective. You are encouraged to use additional academic sources that are relevant and credible.
THINK The case detail indicates the operational challenges that include: being able to establish aligned digital maturity across the whole of NHS England health care service supply chain; being able to exploit the benefits of ?real-time data?; establishing interoperability within the systems that are used to provide business intelligence generated from the information captured within electronic health records; being able to supply digital primary care (GP Services); being able to support the use of Information Technology (IT) within the nursing provision (particularly for skills development and systems exploitation); and being able to provide remote care.
DISCUSS: The strategy What are the benefits of a paperless system?
How can this organisation meet the operational challenges? Think here about whether more needs to be done to educate patients in the digital service provision and how providers ensure that users are aware of the changes and the users? role in service delivery.
The supply chain What are the challenges of interoperability? How is the supply chain configured?
Digital transformation and efficiency Do you think NHS England can meet the revised deadlines set out by the government strategy?
THINK Collecting information every time we go to hospital but what they have is limited so now they will collect wider and more relevant information. They intend to be able to use the information to improve the service in the future. NHS service users can opt out of the information collection. There are some very interesting points here in terms of information and the management of demand and capacity
The Qlik View dashboard is considered and the use of data is discussed in terms of what can be achieved
ACTIVITY List the key terms that are being used in the video such as operational efficiencyto sum up
evaluate Operating Management theories in practice within the case videos and case articles
determine how the theories related to the aspect of *Direct within Operating Management are applied in the case
*Inputs and outputs; strategy and performance (cost quality speed dependability and flexibility)
explore the digital perspectives of capacity and supply chain (the Deliver aspect of operations)
