1: At the founding of the United Nations, the concept of sovereignty (non-interference from external state actors) was regarded as central to the system of states. States were regarded as equal, no higher authority nor superior jurisdiction was accepted. Since the end of the cold war, however, this firm conception of sovereignty has in some instances been relaxed. What are the key reasons for this new, more loose conception of sovereignty? Provide an example (from the last 25+ years) of a situation in international affairs where the concept of sovereignty has been relaxed and discuss briefly the consequences of the acceptance of the more loose concept of sovereignty in that particular case.
