The biggest concern is potential for spreading the virus. She is currently breastfeeding her 6-month-old infant and has 3 other young kids at home. In addition, she is caring for her ill, elderly mother. All these people surrounding her are immunocompromised due to their age. She should be instructed there is a potential for spreading the virus via the fluid from ruptured vesicles (Dunphy et al., 2022). Also, the patient needs to be educated on safe handling of linens, clothes etc. that encounter the rash to reduce the chances of spreading the virus. Finally, she should be instructed to limit contact with those that have not received the varicella vaccine or had chickenpox prior and stop breastfeeding at this time.
