Part I

In one weekly discussion in particular this term, you faced an ethical dilemma. While it was in the virtual environment and you may be grateful for that, it does not negate the fact that you may be facing or called to face a real-life ethical challenge today. It doesn’t help much that our decision-making may be complicated by the pressure of time. Find an ethical situation online that interests you and discuss its merits here. You need not agree, but make sure to support your points with properly researched and documented reasons and evidence according to American Psychological Association (APA) style rules.

Part II: Provide feedback to two classmates

1. From a medical perspective, “the Court’s decision raises significant questions about how doctors who support abortion rights should approach their responsibilities to patients and the law going forward” (Chotiner, 2022). Doctors can face potential legal consequences if they decide to help women to commit abortions, but they also face the reality of violating their patient’s privacy should they disclose the women’s intentions to the authorities. Abortions will continue to happen and some women will have to turn to clandestine medical care.

From a morals perspective, whose morals are being served? The separation of church and state is a concept that is far from being true. An obvious example is portrayed in the American money in the form of a phrase that says “In God we trust.” Defenders of the motto state say “‘that through constant repetition [the phrase] has largely lost is religious content'” (Berggren, 2017).

And why are men so opinionated about the abortion subject. A child changes women’s lives more than it changes the men’s lives. First, men don’t have to undergo the physical changes women do; second, often men vanish, leaving women to deal with raising a child on their own; and third, thanks to men “22,000 pregnancies… result each year from rape” (Melling).

To end my argument I would like to speak to the anti-abortion activists who shame women for having sex calling them whores; if that’s how you want to approach this matter, let’s not forget that men are whores too, they just can’t get pregnant.

2. Looking at recent news, it is hard to miss stories about Alex Jones and his defamation case regarding his statements about the Sandy Hook shooting being a hoax. The parents of the children murdered in the Sandy Hook shooting are seeking $150 million in damages as a result of his attack against them. While Alex Jones defense is stating that this goes against his first amendment rights. This is all clearly an issue as his statements are crude and untrue. While it may be acceptable to have and state conspiracy theories, broadcasting them to his level has made this defamatory against the families. In my opinion, Alex Jones is in the wrong and should be held accountable for his vulgar actions.
